Op 7 september 2017 promoveerde S. Samuels aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam op het proefschrift, getiteld ‘The role of the immune system in cervical cancer.’ Het onderzoek werd verricht in het Centrum voor Gynaecologische Oncologie Amsterdam (CGOA) en het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC) onder begeleiding van promotor prof. dr. G.G. Kenter en copromotor dr. E.S. Jordanova. Het proefschrift toont de rol van het immuunsysteem bij baarmoederhalskanker.
